Stamford, CT - The first annual Make Music Day Stamford Downtown, a wild and wonderful mix of over 35 free outdoor musical events, will make its debut on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 12pm to 8pm. Make Music Day Stamford Downtown is part of Make Music Day, a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year and brings people of all ages and skill levels together to make music. This year, more than 70 U.S. cities and the entire state of Connecticut will host thousands of Make Music Day performances across the country as part of the world’s largest annual music event.

Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, and has spread to over 800 cities across 120 countries. Completely different from a typical musical festival, Make Music Day concerts are performed by anyone who wants to take part and enjoyed by everyone who wants to attend. From classical to folk, hip hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock, live music of all kinds resounds on streets, sidewalks, porches, plazas, parks, gardens, store fronts and other public spaces on the longest day of the year.

Make Music Day Stamford Downtown venues include Latham Park, Columbus Park, Old Town Hall, Ferguson Library Plaza, Tiernan’s Bar & Restaurant, Franklin Street Works, FISH Restaurant + Bar, Quattro Pazzi, Lorca Coffee Bar, Stamford Town Center, Stamford Art Association and 16 Handles.

Highlights of Make Music Day Stamford Downtown on Thursday, June 21 will include:

HARMAN, the Stamford-based audio and technology company, and Stamford Downtown will host a Street Studio from 12pm-5pm near the Ferguson Library, at the corner of Broad and Bedford Streets. The public is invited to stop in and record a song which will be produced as a mash-up by NY producers Zubin Hensler and Ricky Nigaglioni. At 3:30pm Stamford’s Mayor David Martin will be stopping by to add his musical talent to the mix!

In addition, there are 35 confirmed performances in the following music genres: Jazz, Latin, World, hip-hop, gospel, brass, pop, rock, reggae and more! There will be music lessons including Ukele, guitar, harmonica and a drum circle. Dan Micciche, assistant music director and conductor for the national tour of WICKED! will lead a Broadway Tunes sing along. A full schedule of events is available at www.makemusicday.org/stamford.
