Southport, CT – Pequot Library’s Southport Garden Stroll is back! After having to cancel it last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pequot Library is thrilled to revive this signature event supporting the library’s services, programs, and other offerings. The Southport Garden Stroll will be held on June 4, 2021, with morning and afternoon tour blocks beginning at 10 a.m. Affiliated events include Coffee & Conversation with Sefra Alexandra, the “Seed Huntress,” on June 4 at 9 a.m., and a kickoff event with Chris Spitzmiller.

The festivities begin on June 3 with a sold-out event, Champagne & Canapes with Chris Spitzmiller, the celebrated ceramist and designer whose work is often featured in publications such as Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, and The Wall Street Journal. Spitzmiller has had the honor of making lamps for the current Oval Office and the previous two administrations. He is also an avid homesteader whose book A Year at Clove Brook Farm chronicles his time at his Millbrook, N.Y., farm.

Real agriculture buffs will want to arrive early on June 4 to attend Coffee & Conversation with Sefra Alexandra, the “Seed Huntress,” at 9 a.m. Alexandra holds a master’s in teaching in agroecological education from Cornell University and is trained in the tradition of seed saving by the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance. She manages Pequot Library’s seed library and is a known champion of the Southport Globe Onion. Joined by local experts, Alexandra will be discussing the importance of regenerative agriculture.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on June 4, guests gather on the Great Lawn for the Southport Garden Stroll. Featuring several of Southport’s finest private gardens, this self-guided walking tour starts in the heart of Southport Village at Pequot Library. Guests will receive a tour program, have the opportunity to browse local vendors on the Great Lawn, and make their way through a floral adventure in an idyllic seaside New England neighborhood.

Local garden enthusiasts will guide you through the most notable features of these bountiful landscapes. This year’s self-paced Garden Stroll through Southport Village features more than 10 of the community’s most picturesque gardens, including beds featured in Town & Country, Fairfield Living, and Fairfield Magazine. Two of the gardens have been recognized by the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution.

Pequot Library is excited to include vendors as part of this year’s experience and is grateful to its many generous volunteers and sponsors. On The Harbor has signed on as the premiere event sponsor for the Garden Stroll. Champagne & Canapes is sponsored by Sturges Ridge of Fairfield. Coffee & Conversation is sponsored by Jaguar/Land Rover of Fairfield, with coffee and baked goods provided by SoNo Baking. CTC&G is this year’s exclusive media sponsor. Pequot Library would also like to extend its gratitude to Oliver Nurseries & Landscaping, Southport Veterinary Clinic, Maplewood of Southport, Olivia Charney Interior Design, Fairfield Country Day School, The Russell Agency, Henri’s Reserve, Virgil’s Root Beer, and Rise Coffee for their sponsorship.
