Long Island beats Bridgeport, moves into second place

The Long Island Ducks won their third straight game and took over second place in the Liberty Division on Friday, walloping the Bridgeport Bluefish 16-6 before a packed house of 6,210 at Citibank Park.

The Ducks exploded for eight runs in the eighth inning off of Bridgeport reliever Franklin Perez. Four players in the Ducks lineup had three RBI on the night, including P.J. Rose, who went 5-for-5 with a home run at the plate. Ray Navarrete was 2-for-4 and scored three runs in addition to driving in three, while Carl Everett blasted his second three-run homer in as many nights. Damian Rolls also went deep, and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Richard Hidalgo drove in two and scored twice as part of a 2-for-4 effort.

Alay Soler (2-2) picked up the win for Long Island, allowing five runs in five and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts. Barry Hertzler (5-7) took the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits in seven innings of work.

The Ducks continue their series against archrival Bridgeport on Saturday. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the ballpark gates opening at 6:05 p.m. The Ducks will host Tribute to America Night, and following the game there will be a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Sunray Services.
