The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced today the purchase of pitcher Eric DuBose’s contract by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The left-hander will report to AA Jacksonville of the Southern League.

The Oakland Athletics selected DuBose in the first round (21st overall) of the 1997 draft. He saw time at the Major League level with the Baltimore Orioles from 2002 – 2006 with his best year coming in 2003. During that season he appeared in 17 games with ten starts. He finished with a 3-6 record, 3.79 ERA, 44 strikeouts and one complete game in 73.2 innings of work. DuBose has a career 4.06 minor league ERA in 222 games (125 starts) with 774 strikeouts in 852.1 innings. He has 61 career victories in the minor leagues with nine more in his 52 Major League contests.

DuBose, 32, appeared in 17 games with the Bluefish this season making 16 starts. The southpaw went 6-2 with a 3.91 ERA, second best in the Atlantic League at the time of his signing. DuBose struck out 71 hitters in 101.1 innings and held opponents to a .263 batting average. The former Major Leaguer had not lost a game in his last 12 appearances with Bridgeport.

DuBose is the second Bluefish pitcher signed by an affiliated organization in 2008. Reliever Derrick Ellison signed with the Milwaukee Brewers on July 18th. Outfielder Adam Greenberg (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and catcher Brian Peterson (Orioles) also both earned spots with affiliated teams in early May.

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2008 season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800.
