Blake Comeau has returned to the Sound Tiger's lineup from the Islanders with a bang. Over the last three games, he has recorded at least a point and tonight he scored the biggest goal of the Sound Tigers' season when he buried a slap-shot in overtime to beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3. Trevor Smith, returning to the Sound Tigers lineup tonight after he was scratched the past two games for personal reasons, got the team on the board within the first minute of play. Smith, centering the line of recent Islander returnees Kyle Okposo and Blake Comeau, received a pass in the slot from Okposo and snapped it past the out-stretched blocker of Penguins' starter John Curry for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Smith's 16th of the season. The Sound Tigers would carry the play in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's zone for most of the opening period and it paid off when Dustin Kohn would tally his third goal of the season with 1:36 remaining. Smith fed the puck to Comeau at the right circle where he wristed a shot that Curry redirected into the far corner. Kohn crept down from his point position, grabbed the loose puck and fired it into the net as Curry was trying to slide to the post for the 2-0 lead. Joey MacDonald started in goal for the Sound Tigers tonight and made several saves in the second period by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton look easy. The net-minder's best stops of the period came on the Penguins' power-play with four minutes remaining in the period. Alex Goligoski and Ryan Stone played the point positions firing numerous shots on MacDonald but were denied on each keeping the Penguins scoreless after two periods. In the third, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would make it interesting, rattling off three straight goals starting 4:26 into the final period when Mark Ardelan wristed a shot from the point for his seventh goal of the season. Ben Lovejoy and Kurtis McLean had the assists on the tally cutting the lead to 3-1. Just over two minutes later, Dave Gove would score an unassisted power-play goal making it 3-2. Jean-Michel Daoust would tie the score at three when he took a pass from McLean in the left circle and snapped a shot over the shoulder of MacDonald making it 3-3. Alex Goligoski would also have an assist on Daoust's fourth goal of the season. In the overtime, the Sound Tigers were awarded a power-play when Alain Nasreddine took a two-minute hooking penalty. Smith settled the play in the offensive zone and fed a pass to Comeau at the top of the left circle. Comeau hesitated, then walked in and blasted a slap shot through Curry for his fourth goal of the season, winning the game for the Sound Tigers 4-3. MacDonald finished the game with 31 saves on 34 shots while Curry stopped 25. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-5 on the man-advantage and 4-for-5 on the penalty-kill. Tonight, the Sound Tigers return home to take on the Lowell Devils on Friday night at 7:30 for the final game between the two teams this season. Saturday and Sunday, the Sound Tigers will complete their regular season with a home-and-home series against their inter-state rivals, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Saturday, the Sound Tigers will visit the XL Center, face-off time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Sunday the Wolf Pack with come to Bridgeport for an evening start of 4 p.m. All games are broadcasted by the voice of the Sound Tigers, Phil Giubileo over the Sound Tigers' web site and Saturday's broadcast is available on ESPN radio 1300. © Copyright by NorwalkPlus.com.
