Bluefish explode in game two

Bridgeport, CT – May 17th – The Bridgeport Bluefish put on a hitting clinic as the took the second game of a doubleheader over the Long Island Ducks 18-7. The win snaps a six game losing streak and salvages the day after Long Island took the first game 8-7. The Bluefish are now 10-11 on the season.

Things looked grim for the Bluefish early on as the Ducks jumped out to an early 6-2 lead. A Ray Navarate grand slam capped a six-run second inning and knocked Bluefish starter Matt Ford out of the game. Bridgeport remained persistent, as they were in game one, and put their own six spot on the board in the bottom of the third.

Branden Florence came to the plate with the bases full of 'Fish in the third and saw his deep fly ball pop out of leftfielder Carl Everett's hands. The error plated three runs and Jake Daubert threw his two cents in when he jacked a Manny Ulloa pitch over the right field wall to score another two. The Bluefish piled it on from there and scored 16 unanswered runs from the time it was 6-2. Ulloa (1-1) is charged with the loss three innings and allowing three hits and eight runs (two earned) while walking five and striking out four.

After Ford was removed from the game the Bridgeport bullpen did an excellent job of shutting things down. Chris Eickhorst especially stands out pitching three perfect innings with one batter fanned. Chad Bentz picks up the win going 1.1 innings and giving up two hits and two walks.

Navarette's grand slam marked his league-leading sixth home run of the season and second of the long day. The second baseman drove four runs in on the contest and six between the two games to bring his season total to 20.

The Bluefish will host the Ducks in the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 2:05 P.M. The Bluefish will start Tim Drew while the Ducks have not yet announced their replacement starter for Jason Simontacchi who went on the inactive list this weekend.
