The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced today that outfielder Adam Greenberg has been signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization. Greenberg will report to North Little Rock, Arkansas and join the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League (Class AA).

Greenberg was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the ninth round of the 2002 draft. He possesses one of the more interesting stories in MLB history; in his first Major League plate appearance in 2005 he was hit by a pitch and was removed from the game. He remains one of the only players in Major League history to have at least one plate appearance but never an official at bat.

Over the course of his minor league career, Greenberg has a career batting average of .268 with 93 doubles and 47 triples in 597 games. He has also stolen 112 bases and scored 326 runs. After suffering from vertigo due to the hit-by-pitch, Greenberg saw his production fall off for a couple seasons but returned to form last year playing for the Kansas City Royals AA affiliate in Wichita. The outfielder hit .266 in 132 games in 2007 with 30 doubles and 23 stolen bases.

Greenberg started all 13 games played by the Bluefish so far this season. He was hitting .289 with two doubles, and five RBIs. His two triples were tied for the league lead while his .450 on-base percentage is good for seventh in the Atlantic League. Greenberg also drew ten walks and stole two bases on the season.

Greenberg is the second Bluefish to be signed to a Major League organization this season. Catcher Brian Peterson signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization on May 5th.

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2008 season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800.
