Western Connecticut Health Network Presents Breast Cancer Awareness Month Programs and Special Events, Discussions on Aromatherapy and Caregiver Burnout

A Breast Cancer Awareness Program will be held on Tuesday, October 3, at the Regional YMCA, Greenknoll Branch in Brookfield at 12 pm. The featured speaker will be Danbury Hospital breast surgeon Zandra Cheng, MD. Registration is required and can be made by contacting Debbie Nichols, Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut at 203-775-4444, ext. 136.
Western Connecticut Health Network and Star 99.9 are teaming up again to raise awareness for best cancer through the following signature ‘Pinktober’ events:
- Pinktober’s Pedal For a Cure takes place on Thursday, October 5 at JoyRide in Ridgefield and Westport. A certified instructor will be on hand to teach, motivate, and lead the group. Both classes start at 6:30 pm. Check in at 6 pm. Star 99.9 celebs Anna & Raven will be spinning in Westport, and Kevin and Megan will be in Ridgefield. Proceeds benefit WCHN Breast Cancer Services. - Pinktober’s Boots, Bags & Bling will be held at The Market Bistro & Bar, 64 Wall Street in Norwalk on Thursday, October 12, from 6 to 8 pm. It's a Pinktober fun night out for ladies with entertainment, food, music and a chance to win designer boots, designer bags or bling! Proceeds benefit WCHN Breast Cancer Services.
The Goldstone Caregiver Center at Danbury Hospital in partnership with the Institute for Holistic Health Studies at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) are excited to host Brian Luke Seaward, PhD on Thursday, October 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. He will be presenting the lecture “Re-Filling Your Cup: Care for the Caregiver” in the Creasy Auditorium at Danbury Hospital. This free event is open to the community, professional caregivers, and especially encouraged to attend are those who are in any personal caregiving role.
For those who don’t know him, Dr. Seaward is renowned internationally as an expert in the field of stress management, mind-body-spirit healing and health promotion as an author, motivational speaker, award-winning film-maker, and mentor. He has spoken to Olympic athletes, Broadway actors, the leaders of multinational corporations, staff at the White House, and more. Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) will conduct free health seminar for members of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA and the community on “News You Can Use for Breast Health.” The seminar will be held at the YMCA Meeting House in Wilton on Tuesday, October 17, from 7 to 8 pm. The featured speakers will be Jeanne Capasse, MD, Surgical Director, Smilow Family Breast Health Center at Norwalk Hospital, Surgical Breast Cancer Care of Connecticut, Western Connecticut Medical Group, and Mary Heery, APRN, Breast Health Specialist, Smilow Family Breast Health Center at Norwalk Hospital. A discussion on the benefits of “Aromatherapy” and therapeutic application of essential oils will take place at the Riverbrook Regional YMCA Meeting House in Wilton on Thursday, October 27, from 11 am to 12 pm. The free program, presented by WCHN, is open to member of the YMCA and the community.
