On Friday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., L’Armoire at 102 Park Street will host a four-legged delegation from Puppies Behind Bars, the ground-breaking program that trains prison inmates to raise puppies to become service dogs for wounded veterans and law enforcement. The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

“Puppies Behind Bars is a fabulous organization and I am proud to support their important work,” says storeowner Diane Roth. “One of their amazing dogs in training will be here and will demonstrate some of the 87 different commands the dogs learn to obey.” In the program, individual puppies are paired with prison inmates, who live with and train the puppies to become bomb-sniffing dogs or service dogs. The program began at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility (a women’s prison) in 1997 and now operates in six correctional facilities in New York State. Nearly 500 dogs have been trained in the program. Puppies Behind Bars depends on donor contribution. A percentage of the proceeds from the sales on December 3rd will be donated to Puppies Behind Bars.

December 3rd is also opening day of the New Canaan Holiday Stroll, the annual 2½ day official kick off to the holiday season in New Canaan. Stores and restaurants throughout the town will be hosting special refreshments, events and activities. In addition to the personal appearance by dogs from Puppies Behind Bars, L’Armoire will host a special show of the jewelry designs of New York designer Deirdre Featherstone. Featherstone is one of a handful of women platinum bench jewelers. Her distinctive designs feature interlocking individual components that may be mixed and matched as the wearer sees fit.

All Featherstone designs are made in her Soho, New York studio. Deirdre Featherstone’s creations have been worn by Dream Girls star Jennifer Hudson, Kathleen Turner, Brooke Shields and other celebrities. Featherstone has designed and made jewelry for over 25 years. She has a particular love for pearls and is an expert in jewelry condition and period.

L'Armoire is a one-of-a-kind boutique where those who appreciate style and fine clothing can expect the latest fashions, accessories and jewelry from exclusive designers; discreet and objective shopping advice; in a sophisticated and relaxed environment; conveniently located in New Canaan, CT. The store also carries a unique collection of new and estate jewelry, and accessories to complement any outfit. Owner Diane Roth works with exclusive American and European designers that range from small unknown start-ups to brands straight from the pages of "Vogue" such as Gerard Darel, John Galliano, Malo, Cynthia Rose, Morgane Le Fay, and Christian Siriano.
