First two home games of the Calder Cup Playoffs opening round will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will play the first two home games of their opening round of the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Due to the unavailability of the team’s home arena, Arena at Harbor Yard, the Sound Tigers are compelled to play critical playoff games at this alternative location.

With the National Hockey League regular season officially ending on April 12 and the Sound Tigers’ NHL affiliate, the New York Islanders, having been mathematically eliminated from the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the option arose for the Sound Tigers to play their first two playoff games at the Nassau Coliseum.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause our great fans but it is the only solution to hosting our first two playoff home games,” President Howard Saffan said. “With the Arena at Harbor Yard’s scheduling conflicts, playing our home games at the Coliseum is our only solution. We are excited to host our first two playoff games on Long Island and show the Islander fans the high level of hockey their young prospects have been playing all season in Bridgeport.”

Sound Tiger season ticket holders will receive priority seating at the Nassau Coliseum, comparable to their seats in Arena at Harbor Yard, as well as preferred parking. The Sound Tigers will also provide busing for season ticket holders that would rather not drive to Long Island. Fans will receive further details such as dates, times and the Sound Tigers’ first round opponent as soon as it becomes available.

For more information about how to reserve your seats for the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs, contact the Sound Tigers’ front office at (203) 334-GOAL or e-mail info@soundtigers.com.
