UTICA, NY - Ryan Pulock extended his point streak to seven games with a second-period goal on Sunday, but the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (35-19-2-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, suffered a 2-1 loss to the Utica Comets (26-23-7-2) at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Pulock now has two goals and seven assists in his last seven games, while Devon Toews and Josh Winquist also logged a point with an assist. Between the pipes, Jaroslav Halak (14-3-3) made 26 saves on 28 shots.

Utica’s Joseph LaBate notched the game-winning goal late in the second period, helping the Comets to their fifth straight victory. In addition, it was the sixth straight one-goal decision for the Sound Tigers.

The Comets opened the scoring at 11:41 of the first period when their captain, Carter Bancks, registered his eighth goal of the season. Wacey Hamilton set up Bancks in the right circle where he rang a wrist shot off the left post and in past Halak’s blocker.

Bridgeport bounced back at 9:34 of the middle frame courtesy of Pulock’s 12th tally. Following a faceoff win by Winquist in the Comets’ zone, Toews brushed the puck to Pulock where he roped a slap shot past rookie goaltender Thatcher Demko.

LaBate capped the scoring with just over 40 seconds left in the second period when he netted his fourth goal to make it 2-1. LaBate advanced slowly into the Sound Tigers’ zone before snapping a shot from between the circles past Halak. Cole Cassels and Colby Robak each assisted on the final tally.

Both teams finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Comets outshot the Sound Tigers 28-25. Demko turned back 24 shots in Utica’s win.
