PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (33-17-1-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, saw their seven-game win streak come to an end on Friday in a 2-1 loss to the Providence Bruins (31-14-5-4) at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Andrew Rowe scored a power-play tally early in the second period, but the Sound Tigers couldn’t solve goaltender Zane McIntyre (14-0-1) again, falling to 5-2-0-0 against the Bruins this season.

The loss also snapped Bridgeport’s eight-game point streak on the road and Jaroslav Halak’s (13-2-2) personal 12-game win streak. The Sound Tigers’ netminder made 37 saves.

Sean Kuraly put Providence on top at 3:39 of the first period when he capitalized on a breakaway at even strength. From the Bruins’ blue line, Tommy Cross sent a long stretch pass ahead for Kuraly, who found himself behind the Sound Tigers’ defense. Kuraly skated straight to the net and beat Halak blocker side with a forehand shot. It was his 11th goal this season.

Bridgeport answered just 53 seconds into the middle frame courtesy of Rowe’s eighth tally this season. With Cross in the box for tripping, Ryan Pulock and Tanner Fritz teamed up to find Rowe out front, where the seventh-year forward gave McIntyre his only blemish on the night.

Providence took the lead for good at 10:30 of the second period when Rob O’Gara snapped a shot past Halak’s blocker. Jake DeBrusk fed a pass to Jordan Szwarz in the slot before Szwarz immediately steered the puck to O’Gara on the right side. From the circle, O’Grara found the back of the net for his third tally this season.

The contest included one scrap when Josh Winquist and Colby Cave dropped the gloves at 15:35 of the second period. It was Winquist’s third professional fight, and second in the AHL.

Bridgeport finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. McIntyre turned back 29 shots in Providence’s win.

The Bruins outshot the Sound Tigers 39-30.
