Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that the state will assist Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics expand its Brookfield manufacturing facility, retaining 350 jobs and adding more than 70 new positions over the next two years. Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics develops, manufactures and markets products used to diagnose conditions such as diabetes, allergies and cardiovascular disease. The company currently has a 100,000-square-foot assembly and distribution operation in Brookfield. “As Connecticut economy evolves the medical device industry gains more and more importance every day,” Governor Rell said. “This project makes sense as our state’s traditional manufacturing environment changes. Assisting entrepreneurial-minded companies like Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is a smart way to retain and grow jobs while supporting improved healthcare here at home and around the world.” The project is part of the company’s plan for long-term strategic and operational success. Siemens intends to add 30,000 square feet of space and 73 full-time positions in the next two years. “Adding new jobs at this facility will expand our capabilities and have a positive impact on the Brookfield-area communities,” said Donal Quinn, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics. “We believe quality manufacturing is a critical element to serving our clinical laboratory customers and that each employee plays an important role in helping health care professionals provide quality patient care.” Siemens will invest nearly $500,000 in the project. The state Department of Economic and Community Development will provide Siemens a combination of loans, tax credits or training assistance to help with the project.
