According to Pauline Kezer of Old Saybrook, baseball and breast cancer awareness is a winning combination. So when Kezer learned that the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the New Britain Rock Cats were teaming up to raise money for breast cancer on Mother’s Day, she was thrilled to volunteer herself and her husband Ken as Honorary Chairs of the May 9 event.

This Sunday, The Kezers will help host the brunch and game fundraiser. “These are two organizations I truly believe in,” said Kezer of the Rock Cats and Komen Connecticut. “I’m happy to do what I can to bring breast cancer awareness to Rock Cats fans.”

Kezer has a history of service to the State of Connecticut, and is a long time breast cancer advocate. An 11-year survivor of the disease, Kezer was co-founder of the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure and is also a past President of the Connecticut Affiliate. Kezer also ensured that breast cancer policy was a key issue at the state level when she served as Connecticut’s Secretary of the State in the early 1990s.

Ken Kezer’s relationship with the Rock Cats and New Britain is similarly long-lived; Coach Kezer was the varsity baseball coach at New Britain High School for 41 years and is a long time supporter of Rock Cats Baseball.

The Mother’s Day event invites fans to enjoy an all-you-can-eat, pre-game brunch and the afternoon game against the Portland Sea Dogs. Moms will also be celebrated with a flower arrangement courtesy of Gordon Bonetti Florist and special recognition on the video board.

There will be additional ways to support Komen Connecticut this Sunday. Single pink-stemmed roses will be available to fans for a $5 donation to Komen Connecticut and will be proudly donated by the Connecticut Florist Association. A prize drawing will be conducted at the brunch as well with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the local Komen Affiliate.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate our mothers and family members, but all Connecticut residents who have been touched by breast cancer,” said Pauline Kezer.

Adult tickets are $45 each and children’s tickets (ages 5 to 12) are $25 each. Children 4 and under free. Twenty dollars per adult ticket will benefit Komen Connecticut. For more information or to purchase the brunch package, please call the Rock Cats at (860) 224-8383.
