NORWALK, CT - The leaves are changing, and the air is getting cooler—that must mean flu season will be here soon! Never fear, the Norwalk Health Department has the information and services you need to protect yourself and your family.

Take these simple steps to help stay healthy this winter: Wash your hands often with soap and water, cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough, stay home if you feel sick, and get your flu shot from the Norwalk Health Department!

The Health Department will hold two clinics for the public this year:
Wednesday, October 12, 10 am to 12 pm
Thursday, October 13, 5 pm to 7 pm

The clinics will be held at the Health Department (137 East Avenue, Norwalk), and no appointment is necessary. In addition, the Health Department will be open for walk-in hours every Tuesday from 1 pm – 3 pm, beginning October 18.

The Health Department accepts Medicare Part B, Medicaid, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, ConnectiCare, HealthyCT, United, and Cigna. Please bring all your insurance cards with you. Otherwise, standard seasonal flu shots cost $25, and high-dose flu shots (an option for patients age 65 and older) cost $50.

The flu vaccines protect against seasonal and H1N1 flu, and anyone older than 6 months of age is encouraged to get their flu shot. When coming for their flu shot, all clients should try to wear short sleeves for easy access to the injection site.

In addition to clinics that are open to the public, the Health Department also works with employers to hold quick, efficient flu clinics at worksites, providing a valuable benefit to employees.

If you have a question about the flu vaccine, call your physician. For questions about the community flu clinics or to inquire about arranging a vaccination clinic at your worksite, please call the Norwalk Health Department at 203-854-7776.
