Neurosurgeon appointed Assistant Clinical Professor, New York University Medical Center

Scott P. Sanderson, MD, of Redding, a highly regarded neurological surgeon on the Norwalk Hospital Medical Staff, has been appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at New York University Medical Center. "This is a very prestigious teaching appointment and we congratulate Dr. Sanderson on this achievement," said Peter Dodds, MD, chairman, Norwalk Hospital Department of Surgery.

Dr. Sanderson is an expert in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery as well as in the surgical management of head injury, brain tumors and low back pain. He is in practice with Neurosurgical Associates of Southwestern Connecticut, with offices in Norwalk and Danbury.

Board certified in Neurological Surgery, Dr. Sanderson holds his B.S degree from Cornell University and an MD degree cum laude from State University of New York at Syracuse.

He completed his training in general surgery and neurological surgery at New York University Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident in Neurological Surgery. He pursued a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery and Instrumentation in the Department of Neurosurgery, New York University Medical Center. Dr. Sanderson is certified in BrainLab Stereotactic Radiosurgery as well as Charite Lumbar Arthroplasty. He has also been awarded certification in the use of the Prestige Cervical Arthroplasty and the Prodisc-C Cervical Arthroplasty.

A member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. Sanderson has received honors for his academic and surgical expertise. He is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and has received the Lange Medical Publication Award, the McGraw Hill Award for Academic Achievement and an Academic Achievement Award from the Department of Neurological Surgery, SUNY at Syracuse.

Dr. Sanderson has published articles on neurosurgical topics in prestigious medical journals and has lectured nationally on subjects such as "The Unique Characteristics of Upper Lumbar Disc Herniations" and "Management of Raised Intracranial Pressure in the Head Injured Patient."
