Internationally known speakers to present on Medicine and Spiritual Healing
Divaldo Franco
The mind, body and spirit connection and its impact on our health and well-being will be discussed by two prominent and internationally-known speakers at the Norwalk Concert Hall at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk, on Saturday, October 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dr. Bernie Siegel and Divaldo Franco are coming to Norwalk to present on "Medicine and Spiritual Healing". The program is being sponsored by Norwalk Hospital free of charge as a community service.

"We are honored to have such distinguished guests visit our area to share their insights and experiences with the spiritual, emotional and physical factors that impact our health and wellbeing," said Dr. Claudio Petrillo, chairman of the Norwalk Hospital Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. "Western medicine had for a long time focused primarily on treatment of injury and illness, while integrative medicine emphasizes wellness, prevention and a holistic approach to health care," Dr. Petrillo added.

Internationally known speakers to present on Medicine and Spiritual Healing
Dr. Bernie Siegel
Dr. Siegel is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College who completed his surgical training at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He retired from practice as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Yale of general and pediatric surgery in 1989 to speak to patients and their caregivers.

In 1978 he originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patient's drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on "carefrontation", a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and health of the individual's life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential.

In 1986, his first book, Love, Medicine and Miracles was published and became a best-seller. He went on to write other books and continues to work with the goal of humanizing medical education and medical care, as well as, empowering patients and teaching survival behavior to enhance immune system competency. Bernie's realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones and his books help people to become aware of the eternal truths and wisdom of the sages before a personal disaster occurs.

Bernie's prediction is that in the next decade the role of consciousness, spirituality, non local healing, body memory and heart energy will all be explored as scientific subjects.

As a physician, who has cared for and counseled innumerable people whose mortality had been threatened by an illness, Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our society grapples with today. He continues to assist in the breaking of new ground in the field of healing and personally struggling to live the message of kindness and love.

Divaldo Franco, born in Bahia, Brazil, is considered one of the greatest spiritual leaders in Brazil. He had co-authored more than 200 books with his spiritual mentors, of which more than 70 have been translated to greater than 15 languages.

Divaldo travels frequently all over the world to speak on Spiritual themes and to date has given more than 14,000 conferences in Brazil and abroad, having visited about 65 countries within the four continents.

Due to his outstanding work as a speaker for the Spiritual Doctrines, he has been honored by various national and international institutions.

In 1952, he founded "Mansion of the Way" in Bahia, Brazil, which attends an average of 3,000 underprivileged children per day, offering them daily care, schooling and spiritual education from infancy to age 18. This charitable institution also attends to the parents and poor pregnant women who would otherwise delivery in the streets of Salvador.
