Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that her Charter Oak Health Plan has crossed two major milestones, with more than 2,000 people now eligible to receive coverage and more than 1,000 members enrolled in one of the three managed care organizations offering services under Charter Oak.
“This is substantial growth for a plan that is less than three months old,†Governor Rell said. “Even better, hundreds of Connecticut residents who had no access to health coverage will now have the peace of mind of knowing they can see a doctor, fill a prescription or treat an emergency without worrying about how to pay.
“The more access people have to health care before they become seriously ill, the healthier our state will be,†the Governor said. “Charter Oak not only accepts all applicants, regardless of pre-existing conditions, it covers regular doctor visits. That is critically important to maintaining overall health and reducing the burden on emergency rooms and other highly expensive treatment centers.â€
As of the close of business September 24, a total of 2,035 people were eligible for coverage under Charter Oak, with 1,001 enrolled in one of the three managed care companies contracted to provide services under the program. After an applicant is determined eligible, enrollment is the next step to gain health care coverage. The plan began taking applications July 1.
The Charter Oak Health Plan serves uninsured adults, aged 19 through 64, of any income. Monthly premiums range from $75 to $259, depending on income. Consumer information is available at www.charteroakhealthplan.com or 1-877-77CTOAK.
