Registration is currently underway for the seventeenth annual Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop, an intensive two-week seminar for advanced high school musicians from throughout Connecticut and Westchester County specializing in trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar, piano, bass and drums. A Middle School division of the workshop, introduced four summers ago, returns by popular demand. Tuition for Middle School workshop is $500.

Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop ‘09, beginning Monday, July 20 and continuing through Friday, July 31 (2009), is presented by Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic. Composer/arranger/performer John Mastroianni returns as Director of Summer Jazz Workshop ’09.

To participate, all young musicians must register pending approval of Workshop administrators, unless they have attended a previous Workshop. The registration form and other pertinent information are available for downloading at www.syap.org and must be mailed with tuition check (payable to SYAP) to P.O. Box 3301, Ridgeway Station, Stamford, CT 06905. Deadline for registering is Friday, July 17 (2009). For additional information call Joyce DiCamillo at 203.532.1278.

The young musicians approved to participate in Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop ‘09 will be taught by a prestigious faculty which includes John Mastroianni, saxophones; and such widely recorded artists as Tony Kadleck, trumpet; Bruce Eidem, trombone; Joyce DiCamillo, piano; Chip Jackson, bass; Joe Cohn, guitar, and Thierry Arpino, drums.

In addition, a number of prominent jazz recording artists will conduct master classes during the two-week session. The ultimate goal is the evolution of a number of jazz ensembles, which will perform in concert at the culmination of the Workshop experience on Friday, July 31.

Beginning Monday, July 20 and continuing through Friday, July 31 (2009), the young musicians will rehearse and perform each weekday from 9am to 3pm during classes of jazz theory, improvisation, master class performances, composing and arranging and performing in jazz ensembles.

The Middle School Workshop will run from 9:30am-12:00pm concurrently with the senior division on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week. Students will receive instruction in theory and improvisation.

Currently celebrating its forty-ninth season under the direction of its founder Salvatore Princiotti, the Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic organization, comprised of three orchestras -- Young Artists Philharmonic, Young People’s Symphony and Young String Ensemble plus Young Artists Flute Choir, Young People’s Flute Choir and Young People’s and Young Artists Jazz Ensembles - is committed to a high standard of excellence, both in musicianship and as a resource to the community.
