KARL Chevrolet HUMMER will launch its twenty fourth Annual High School Scholarship Promotion this week, pledging to contribute $50 to area scholarship programs this spring in the name of each individual or business purchasing or leasing a new or Certified Pre-owned vehicle from April 1 - 30, 2009.

Since 1986 KARL Chevrolet HUMMER’s scholarship drives have raised $75,500 for area high school graduates for their continuing education.

“With the current state of our economy, it would be an easy decision to scale back our Dealership’s efforts on a program like our Annual Scholarship Drive, but that is not our response,” remarked Leo E. Karl III, President. “Back in 1986 when we began this effort, we saw it as a way to say ‘Thanks’ to the communities that have supported our business for the past 80 years. And today is not the time to stop saying ‘Thanks’, but rather this is the time we all need to dig a little deeper and seek to help those in even greater need than ourselves,” he stated. “With a daughter who is a freshman in college this year, I know all too well the first-hand demands of college expenses. The costs of a college education continue to rise, and the need for assistance has become even greater,” he added.

“So, this April, I am pleased to announce that we will expand our support for local Scholarship Foundations by including both new and Certified Pre-owned vehicle purchases. Over the past year, as we have worked to help our clients maximize their savings during some challenging times, we have found that a Certified Pre-owned vehicle is offering an attractive alternative for many customers. We have dramatically grown the Certified Pre-owned portion of our business by adding both Cadillac and HUMMER Certified Pre-owned vehicles to our previous Chevrolet Certified Pre-owned offerings. This April, we are adding these vehicles to our Scholarship Drive,” Mr. Karl announced.

Schools participating in the KARL Scholarship program -- New Canaan, Darien, Stamford, Westhill, Norwalk, Brien McMahon and Greenwich High Schools -- are asked to use a student’s commitment to and involvement in both school and community volunteer activities as a factor for awarding the scholarships, Mr. Karl said. This criterion matches the Karl family’s own commitment to community service. All scholarships are administered by the local schools.

Founded in 1927, the KARL Company operates the award-winning, customer-focused Chevrolet HUMMER Dealership, which recently added a pre-owned Cadillac franchise, at 261 Elm Street in New Canaan, one block west of the Metro North train station.
