Carl Everett kept the Ducks alive early before P.J. Rose gave Long Island their first lead of the game. Everett drove in the first two runs for the Quack Pack with a third inning double into the left field corner, then in the fifth he blasted a three-run homer high into the net in left. Rose cleared the bases in the seventh inning with a three-run double over the head of centerfielder Henry Mateo that gave the Ducks a 10-8 lead. Dennis Donovan also finished with three hits and three runs scored. Jay Caligiuri and Jesse Hoorelbeke both hit homers for the 'Fish in the losing effort. Hoorelbeke started the Bridgeport scoring with his 22nd long ball of 2008 in the first inning off Long Island starter Manny Ulloa. Caligiuri drove in three on the evening including a towering two-run shot in the sixth that padded the Bluefish lead. Mateo (two doubles, RBI) and Alex Prieto (RBI, run) continued their respective hot streaks and both recorded two hits. Andy Weimer (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bluefish in relief. The Bridgeport sidewinder allowed four runs to score over his 0.2 innings. Jeff Tam served up the go-ahead double by Rose, all runs charged to Weimer. Ducks reliever Jose Paniagua (1-0) did an excellent job of holding the game close in relief of Ulloa. In his first appearance with Long Island this season, Paniagua worked three innings and gave up one hit (Caligiuri home run) to pick up the victory. Bridgeport looks to rebound tomorrow night at 6:05 P.M. In a battle of southpaws, Bridgeport's Mike Connolly (1-1) will square off against Abe Alvarez (5-1). The contest will feature a spectacular fireworks display at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
