The Riversharks made short work of the Bridgeport Bluefish in the series opener Friday night. By the end of the fourth inning, they were up 7-0 and starter Jake Dittler was clinging to a no-hit bid.

Dittler was sharp through seven innings. He allowed just one run on two hits after maintaining the no-no through 5 1/3 innings. The Sharks’ bats responded with a show of their own.

Designated hitter Ron Davenport singled to start the second, and first baseman Tyler Von Schell blasted a two-run homer to left to put the Sharks on the board.

Outfielder Nic Jackson doubled to left to start the third, advanced on a wild pitch from Bridgeport’s Matt Sweeney and scored on a single from Sheldon Fulse. L.J. Biernbaum walked to push Fulse up, and both advanced on Sweeney’s second wild pitch. Davenport drove Fulse in on a groundout.

Up 4-0 in the fourth, Jackson homered to right with two on. Infielders Bobby Gandolfo and Tim Johnson scored.

The Bluefish avoided the shutout with a run in the seventh. Outfielder Steve Doetsch hit an RBI double to left to score Ryan Bear.

The Sharks scored their final run in the eighth on an RBI single from Jackson. Jackson ended the night 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.

Dittler (2-3) collected his second win, and Sweeney (2-6) got the loss for Bridgeport. The game lasted just two hours and twenty-five minutes.

The series continues tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. There’s a special fireworks presentation sponsored by South Jersey Federal Credit Union. Tickets are available at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
