The Bridgeport Bluefish will host Roberto Clemente Night on August 21 in honor of the late, great humanitarian and player. Clemente was one of the first Puerto Rican born players to play in Major League Baseball and became the first Puerto Rican player named to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. Clemente’s legacy of community involvement and dedication to fans is an inspiration to the Bluefish.

Compare Foods is the sponsor of the night with Amtrak as a participating sponsor. Compare, a local Spanish supermarket, is an active participant and contributor in the community. Compare purchased 800 tickets for the evening and donated them to the Bridgeport Caribe Youth League. The goal of the BCYL is to provide children, especially the Latino children in the city of Bridgeport, with a dedicated activity in which they can participate and grow.

The night will feature music and food with a Latino flavor. The players will wear Pittsburgh Pirates jerseys and sport the number 21 to honor Clemente’s days in the Majors. The Thursday evening game will be full of prizes and fun for all in attendance. Tickets are available now for the 7:05 P.M. contest at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard or on East Main Street at El Flamboyan Restaurant and Check Cashing and More.

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2008 group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800.
