The Super Saturday Series offers a complement of creative art-making and educational activities for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Students can participate in any of the themed workshops, which give kids the opportunity to use a wide range of materials to execute their imaginative creations. In “Cartoon Art” on Saturday, September 27, students will design an original cartoon character and create their own comic strip. On October 11, kids who attend “Dream Houses” will create a high-tech dream house of the future. Children will assemble Mad Hatter top hats inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” in “Wearable Art” on October 25. The “Found Objects” workshop on November 8 will allow students to put together salvaged paper, fabrics, ribbon scraps, and other “found” objects to create 3D assemblages. On November 22, kids will create a collage of memories through the technique of scrapbooking in “Photo Collages.” Children will create their own wild fantasy creations using fun, recycled materials in “Fantasy Constructions” on December 6.
KinderCreate is also part of the Westport Arts Center’s educational Fall lineup. Designed for kindergarteners, KinderCreate is a series of hands-on classes based around the theme of “Modern Masters.” Students will discover the work of preeminent modern and contemporary artists, as well as major art movements, and create their own mixed-media masterpieces. KinderCreate will meet at the Westport Arts Center Mondays from 2:00-3:00 pm starting Monday, September 22 through Monday, October 27. The full series costs $145. The Westport Arts Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating arts experiences that contribute to individual growth and enrich the community. The Westport Arts Center is supported with funds from The Artur and Heida Hermanns Holde Foundation, Inc., Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, Connecticut Light & Power, Fairfield County Bank, Gault, Inc., Main Street Resources, U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, and Westport Resources.
