In response to the urgent call for help, Westy Self Storage is hosting a donation drive to assist the earthquake survivors in Haiti. Westy Self Storage in Stamford is a designated drop off location for donations. In addition to collection, Westy will also provide temporary storage for the donations and deliver them to The Share Joy Foundation who will coordinate the distribution of the items to Haiti. Share Joy, a non-profit organization based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, recycles donations from affluent communities for people in greater need.

On January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. To date, an estimated 50,000 people lost their lives in the tragedy, with potential death tolls expected to top well over 100,000. The quake left tens of thousands homeless in a wake of disaster and devastation. There is an immediate need for aid and assistance in Haiti. President Obama announced that “one of the largest relief efforts in our recent history” is moving toward Haiti, with thousands of troops and a broad array of civilian rescue workers flying or sailing in to aid the stricken country – backed by more than $100 million in relief funds.

Westy Self Storage, together with The Share Joy Foundation, will be collecting clean blankets, clothes, flashlights, non-perishable food, towels and candles. The community is encouraged to join this recovery effort as donations will help disaster victims rebuild their lives and their communities. Help assist with the emergency by contributing at Westy Self Storage in Stamford located at 80 Brownhouse Road. “We are grateful to Westy Self Storage for their assistance,” said Isabel Chase of The Share Joy Foundation. “It is refreshing to receive a call from a local business offering to help in this time of need.”

Westy is open for drop off 7 days a week. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Call 203-961-8000 or visit www.westy.com for directions. “When we learned of the devastation, we knew we had to do something to help.” said Joe Schweyer, District Director of Westy Self Storage, Stamford. “Together with The Share Joy Foundation, I am confident we can make a difference. Even the smallest of donations will go a long way in helping an area of complete devastation.”
