“Public Art in Context,” featuring the installation artist Russell Maltz, whose work, “Painted/Stacked Westport,” is on view at the Westport Public Library River Walk and the Westport Arts Center’s deck, and Jennifer McGregor, visual arts director of Wave Hill and a founding advisor of the Public Art Network, is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in the main gallery of the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Avenue.
“We are very excited about the public dialogue that will be created by ‘Color in 3D,’ and its most publicly visible work, ‘Painted/Stacked Westport,’” said Emily Hamilton Laux, gallery coordinator. Nancy Heller, Westport Arts Center business and development director, said, “’Painted/Stacked Westport’ brings a fresh visual meaning to the River Walk and our deck. The stacks on both sides of the river create a new kind of bridge between the river banks, as well as a visual link between two cultural organizations—the Arts Center and the Library— that have a longstanding partnership.”
A daytime “Art in Context Talk” is scheduled for Friday, May 23 at 9:30 a.m. Led by Danielle Cavanna, the talk will focus on installation art. A graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, Ms. Cavanna is the education coordinator at the Westport Arts Center. She holds an MA in art history from Boston University and has worked at the Museum of Modern Art, the Fogg and Sackler Museums at Harvard and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Currently, she also teaches art history at Salve Regina University in Newport. Exhibition support for “Color in 3D” is provided by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, the National Endowment for the Arts, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Gault, Inc., the O'Grady Foundation, and U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.
