The series of compliance checks was conducted in eight liquor stores and groceries that sell beer. Two underage volunteers, trained and provided by the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages in each of the locations. “We routinely conduct these alcohol compliance checks in towns statewide,” Farrell said. “These operations are consistently useful in helping us identify licensed or permitted locations that are selling alcoholic beverages to minors.” However, Farrell added, the compliance checks are not intended to hurt local businesses. “We in no way trick or entice establishments to sell alcoholic beverages to youth,” Farrell said. “If asked for proof of age before making a liquor purchase, the volunteer youths will hand over their actual ID. Our objective is to find those businesses that are selling to minors and bring them into compliance with state law. We thank the Connecticut State Police and the Prevention Partnership for their cooperation and support.” The establishment that failed Friday’s compliance check is : • V TOWN LIQUOR, 144 MAIN ST., VOLUNTOWN The seven locations that passed are: • BETTER VAL-U SUPERMARKET, 99 RIVER RD., LISBON • SUNNYS SUPERMARKET, 129 MAIN STREET, VOLUNTOWN • ISLAND PACKY, 604 VOLUNTOWN ROAD, GRISWOLD • JC SPIRIT SHOPPE, 63 MAIN ST, GRISWOLD • BIG GARYS DISCOUNT LIQUORS, 461 VOLUNTOWN ROAD, GRISWOLD • BALTIC WINE & SPIRIT, 2 WEST MAIN ST., SPRAGUE • BETTER VAL-U LISBON PACKAGE STORE, 99 RIVER ROAD, LISBON The failed establishment is charged with selling liquor to a minor and will be brought before the Liquor Control Commission for an administrative hearing, at which time it will have an opportunity to address the charges. © Copyright by NorwalkPlus.com.
