From outdoor concerts to indoor theater productions, towns throughout the region are buzzing with music and culture this summer. Union Savings Bank, a long-time supporter of community initiatives and events, is contributing to the local arts scene by giving more than $80,000 to cultural organizations throughout western Connecticut.

“We are very excited to be able to sponsor many of this summer’s local arts events,” said John Kline, president of Union Savings Bank. “The arts are important on so many levels. In addition to inspiring and stimulating the surrounding community, they contribute significantly to residents’ quality of life. Events like these make Danbury and surrounding towns vibrant places in which to work and live.”

Here is a sampling of Union Savings Bank-sponsored venues and 2008 summer events:

The 2008 Summer Concert Series at Ives Concert Park in Danbury

Union Savings Bank is the title sponsor for the summer series, which kicks off on June 29 with Melissa Etheridge and includes performances by the Beach Boys, Ani DiFranco and Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. The Summer Concert Series will also include children’s programming and performances by the Ives Festival Orchestra and the Manhattan String Quartet. For a full schedule, visit ivesconcertpark.com.

CityCenter Danbury’s Summer Nights Concerts on the Green

Union Savings Bank is a presenting sponsor of CityCenter Danbury’s season, which begins on July 10 and ends August 23.

"Danbury has always been a strong community, and nowhere can citizens celebrate their community better than downtown," said Andrea Gartner, executive director of CityCenter. “Partnering with a downtown community-focused bank like Union Savings Bank was a natural fit.”

CityCenter’s season includes Thursday night family performances, Friday evening performances by well-known local artists and Saturday evening multi-cultural shows. A special performance by the Danbury Symphony Orchestra will take place on June 21. All performances are offered free to the public. For additional information, visit citycenterdanbury.com.

Hunt Hill Farm, New Milford

The musical festivities begin at Hunt Hill Farm on June 28 with a performance by Sherrie Maricle and her jazz group Five Play. The group will celebrate Broadway, jazz, film and pop during the concert, which is named after their new CD “What the World Needs Now.”

Union Savings Bank is the title sponsor of Hunt Hill Trust’s biggest event of the year – “Hunt Hill Farm Goes Country,” featuring a concert by Larry Gatlin and Hunt Hill Trust’s annual barbecue on September 20.

“Hunt Hill Farm Goes Country! Larry Gatlin Live in Concert” is our first event of this magnitude and gives us the opportunity to show off a beautiful part of Litchfield County,” said Susan York, executive director of Hunt Hill Trust. “Without the sponsorship of Union Savings Bank and the help of the Northwest Connecticut Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, this endeavor might not have been undertaken. Union Savings Bank’s sponsorship of this event shows their commitment to the Hunt Hill Farm Trust and the community.”

In addition, Union Savings Bank is underwriting the free performance of Shakespeare on the Green – The Complete Works of Shakespeare on Saturday, August 9. Ridgefield Theater Barn

The "Barn" has been providing quality live theater productions to Ridgefield and the surrounding communities for 42 years. “Cabaret” runs June 6 to July 5, and “House of Blue Leaves” runs September 5 to 27. In addition, an improv performance will take place during the first week in August. For more information visit ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org.
