Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting in-store recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Toy Police Cars” manufactured in China and imported by TCB imports, of Vernon, California. The toy cars were sold at discount and dollar stores nationwide from May 2008 through August 2008 for approximately $1.00. The paint on the toy cars contains excessive levels of lead.

The recalled toy cars were sold in red/white and purple/white and measure approximately 8 inches by 4 inches by 4 1/2 inches. The cars have a friction function, therefore when the car is pushed forward, it builds momentum, so when released, the car moves forward on its own power. Item Number #TF820 is printed on the product’s packaging is

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. urged parents/guardians to check their homes for this product and if found, immediately take the item away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a refund. Do not let children handle this toy car due to the high lead levels. For additional information, please call TCB Imports, Inc., toll free at (888) 674-5497, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday, or visit their website at www.tcbimports.com. Although no injuries have been reported, the potential for lead exposure to children is high.
