The State Elections Enforcement Commission has awarded more public grants from the Citizens’ Election Fund to candidates running in the November 2008 election. At the July 2, 2008 regular Commission meeting public grants were awarded to the following candidates: Deborah Heinrich, Michael McLachlan, William Aman, Theresa McGrath, Joan Lewis, Susan Bruschi, Vicki Nardello, William Ford Rodgers, John Hartwell, Dennis Brenner, Matthew Lesser and Auden Grogins. The Commission denied the grant award of Joseph Crisco due to a flawed application that failed to comply with Section 9-703 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
When a candidate files an Affidavit of Intent to Abide by Expenditure Limits and joins the Citizens’ Election Program; that candidate, becomes legally bound to comply with all Program requirements. The Commission is responsible for ensuring that all campaigns adhere to the requirements of the Program and that public funds are distributed only to campaigns that satisfy these requirements.
To date, seven candidates for state senator and twenty-six candidates for state representative have been awarded public grants for the 2008 General Assembly elections.
