Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced the launch of “Connecticut – Your Staycation Destination” -- a summer program offering discounts for Connecticut residents at more than 300 attractions showcased throughout the state. With gas prices at record highs and with many Connecticut families re-thinking their summer vacation plans, Governor Rell is urging residents to remember that Connecticut has some of the best natural, cultural and recreational attractions in the world. “To help families discover all Connecticut has to offer and to create a lifetime of memories this summer, I am launching the Connecticut Staycation Destination program,” Governor Rell said. “Great attractions at discounted rates mean more smiles, less miles and less money out of the family budget. Spend less time driving, more time having fun and spend less money – it is an absolute win-win-win.” Connecticut families can expect a season of savings when they visit amusement parks, museums, restaurants, hotels, vineyards, golf courses, sporting venues and parks. The program runs through Labor Day and will help residents make the most of their vacation dollars while enjoying some of the finest attractions in the United States. “Tourists from across the nation and from other countries come to Connecticut for their vacations,” Governor Rell said. “Thankfully, Connecticut residents do not have to travel that far to enjoy wonderful and exciting summertime experiences. It can be easy to overlook what is in your own back yard – but from Mystic Seaport to the Litchfield Hills and everywhere in between, Connecticut offers hundreds of day and weekend trips to a variety of exciting destinations.” The destinations and discounts will be featured on the state’s CTvisit.com Web site. The state is also exploring opportunities to expand the Staycation program into the fall. More than 300 venues and businesses have signed up to be a part of the Staycation Destination program. Those businesses agreed to provide a variety of discounts that include reduced admission rate, free merchandise, discounted room rates and more to Connecticut residents. “The variety of discounts and regional packages being offered by venues throughout the state is tremendous,” Governor Rell said. “Connecticut offers everything you can find in other New England states – beautiful beaches, scenic parks, bed and breakfasts, great golf, hiking, biking, camping, historic sites, museums and more. Whatever your vacation plans, you can find it right here. “I hope all Connecticut residents to visit the CTvisit.com website throughout the summer to learn about the exciting adventures awaiting them. While providing families with a summer they will never forget we will also be helping them to save on gas, save on admission and lodging rates and open their eyes to endless recreational and cultural opportunities in this great state,” Governor Rell said. © Copyright by NorwalkPlus.com.
