Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments, conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall on June 26, 2008 of “2nd Nature Built to Grow Cribs” manufactured in Slovenia for Stanley Furniture Company Inc., of Stanley, Virginia. The cribs were sold nationwide at department and furniture stores, for approximately $1,100, from March 2006 through December 2007. The potential for entrapment occurs if the mattress support is in the middle setting, which may create a space to wide between the crib and mattress, producing an entrapment hazard to infants.

The cribs involved in this recall are the full size, natural maple in color, 2nd Nature Built to Grow, Model # 353-14-220. The following serial numbers are in this recall: 353-14-220-L-01, 353-14-220-L-02, 353-14-220-L-03, 353-14-220-L-04, 353-14-220-L-05, 353-14-220-L-06, 353-14-220-L-07, 353-14-220-L-08, 353-14-220-L-101, and 353-14-220-L-103. The Model and Serial Numbers are on the headboard.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. urged consumers who have these cribs, to cease using immediately in the middle mattress setting and adjust the setting to either high or low. For additional information or to determine if the crib is subject to this recall and entitled to receive a free replacement headboard, call Stanley Furniture toll-free at (888) 839-6822, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, or visit their website at www.youngamerica.com. Although no injuries and/or incidents have occurred, the potential for entrapment is high.
