STAMFORD, CT - Stamford Mayor David Martin presented several deserving local arts organizations with Community Arts Partnership Program (CAPP) grants on Friday. The grants are part of the commitment of Mayor Martin to develop audiences for local arts organizations and increase enjoyment of the arts by all Stamford residents.

“We are continuing to highlights all the arts have to offer in Stamford,” said Mayor Martin. “I recently signed the ordinance creating the Arts & Culture Commission that will shepherd the arts in Stamford for years to come. And then we have these CAPP grants. We are so lucky to have many great arts organizations here in Stamford that are doing excellent, creative work, and I am so happy to support them. Thank you to Karen and Erik for their help administering the grants.”

In Fiscal Years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, a total of $118,000 will be distributed to local arts organizations. Stamford-based nonprofit and community organizations were eligible to apply for the grants.

“CAPP grants are an excellent tool to build the capacity of Stamford’s arts and culture sector. For emerging groups seeking experience, the CAPP grant application and reporting process is designed to be manageable. It provides them with an opportunity to better understand the grant process, and prepare them to pursue more complicated applications. CAPP grants also provide established organizations with a much needed financial boost and affirm that their work is valued by our community,” continued Erik Larson, Community Development Director for the City of Stamford.

Organizations that received funding included: the Connecticut Ballet, CB Festival Productions, Franklin Street Gallery, Haitian American Professionals Assoc. of CT, Highland Green Foundation, Loft Artists Association, Lumina String Quartet, Stamford Art Association, Take Back Carwin Park Committee, The Ballet School of Stamford, The Stamford Chorale, and Treetops Chamber Music Society.

“’From the Community For the Community’ is the motto of The Stamford Chorale. Now we have the ability to reach more residents in the Stamford area and share the joy that singing brings. We hope to add additional concerts and instruments to our performances,” added Edith Neidle, Co-President of The Stamford Chorale.
