Senior citizens (mostly women) have come up with many different activities to keep themselves entertained. One thing all the groups seem to have in common is going out to lunch. The Red Hatters is an organization with groups all over the country that wear red hats and purple outfits. Red Hat women celebrate getting older and it all takes place once a month over lunch!

“The Lunch Bunch” is a new Washington, CT Club that gets together once a month for lunch to enjoy each others company. This group of both men and women attracts more than 50 people to some lunch dates. Mahjong is a game popular for seniors and many women have started their own Mahjong clubs that meet at restaurants for lunch before playing a serious couple of rounds at tables of four over coffee.

The Litchfield Saltwater Grille is one restaurant that is serving up a bargain of entertainment and food for these senior groups quite often. For St Patrick’s Day a $10 luncheon special was offered including a choice of soup or salad, Irish Soda bread, a choice of an entrée, and a beverage. The cost was all inclusive including tax and gratuity. “Over 60 people made reservations for the lunch,” says the Grille’s owner Brett Clugston. ‘The only requirement was to wear green! The seniors had a blast!” This May the same type of special will be offered to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

May 5th Luncheon Special Available 12 noon until 2:30 PM
The Price $10 per Senior Includes:
Homemade Tortilla Chips, Salsa, Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Chipotle Hot Sauce,
and Mexican Style Rice and Beans.
Choice of Three Entrees:

Baja Style Fish Tacos, White Corn Tortillas, Cherry Peppers, Avocado, Lime
Chicken Sopes, Shredded Chicken, Lettuce, Mole Sauce
Pulled Pork Empanadas, Chorizo, Cheddar
And Dessert: Deep Fried Banana Flautas, Strawberries, Whipped Cream

Senior citizens make up about 70% of our customer base at The Litchfield Saltwater Grille. “We have found that seniors seem to like package deals with pre set menus,” says Brett Clugston, owner of the restaurant.

“The Saltwater Grille makes the entrée choices available well in advance to make planning ahead fun.” A different packaged menu is offered 4 days a week at the restaurant and on many holidays. The packages are not actually restricted to senior citizens; anyone can take advantage of them, although, seniors and senior groups gravitate towards the packages the most. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Early Bird four course meals are offered at $18 per person. The Early Bird menu features 10 entrée choices and changes often with the season. Lobster Night is the biggest hit every summer bringing customers from all over CT to enjoy a great deal. $25 includes a 1 ½ pound steamed Maine Lobster, Soup or Salad, Corn on the Cob, Potato, Coleslaw, and Dessert. The Lobster special is so popular that reservations fill up fast so do call ahead!

Reservations for the senior Cinco de Mayo special luncheon, Early Bird, and Lobster Night can be made by calling The Saltwater Grille at 860.567.4900.
