STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way was recently awarded a $1,200 grant from the Probus Club of Greater Bridgeport to support two very special recreational programs for adults with intellectual disabilities, the Theater of STARs program that provides music, dance and performance opportunities for STAR clients; and the equestrian program STAR provides in cooperation with New Canaan Mounted Troop.

Katie Banzhaf, Executive Director of STAR says, “These two programs are so beneficial to our clients. They are able to build their physical and verbal skills while becoming more connected to a community that encourages skill development, practice, teamwork and responsibility. Participation in these volunteer groups can be transformative. We are very grateful to Probus Club for this grant that supports these important programs.”

The New Canaan Mounted Troop program in partnership with STAR offers 8-week sessions that include classes in horse grooming and care as well as riding. The Theater of STARs program runs from September through December with weekly practices that include dancing, singing and a performance scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Norwalk City Hall Concert Hall.
