FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart University Athletic Department will host Newtown Community Day on Saturday, February 23, during the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader at the William H. Pitt Center, as well as the men’s hockey game that night at Milford Ice Pavilion.

All Newtown residents will receive free admission with a valid ID for Sacred Heart’s doubleheader with Northeast Conference rivals Quinnipiac University and Central Connecticut State University. The Pioneer women tip off at 1 p.m. against the QU Bobcats, and the men take on the CCSU Blue Devils at 3:30 p.m. Residents can also get free admission to the Sacred Heart men’s hockey game Saturday night against Bentley at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7 p.m.

The Sacred Heart Athletic Department will host a Kids Sports Clinic in the Pitt Center as part of the event. Pioneer student-athletes will lead drills and games in various sports. The sports clinic will take place before the women’s game, starting at 11:30 a.m. and continuing through 1 p.m.

In addition, the Sacred Heart cheerleaders, dance team and SHU mascot “Big Red” will be on hand for a meet and greet, face painting and to take pictures. The Sacred Heart men’s basketball team will host an autograph session in the gym at 12:30 p.m. The women’s team will sign autographs for fans following their game at 3 p.m.

A percentage of the proceeds from the two games will benefit The Newtown Scholarship Association’s Sandy Hook Elementary School Memorial Scholarship Fund.
