Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting recall effectiveness checks at retail establishments in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Protocol” Remote-Controlled Mini Helicopter Toys, manufactured in China and imported by Ashley Collection Inc., d.b.a. Protocol, of New York, New York, due to fire/burn hazard.
The rechargeable battery inside the toy helicopter can overheat resulting in melting, fire and burns. Model numbers starting with 1442 are involved with this recall and the numbers “1442-X,” can be located on the packaging. The toy helicopter measures 7 inches long and is made of plastic and foam. “Protocol” is printed on the tail and side of this product. This product was sold nationwide at retail establishments from October 2007 through December 2008 for approximately $30.00 to $50.00.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. strongly recommends consumers check their homes for this product and if found, immediately cease using and contact Protocol for instructions on a free replacement helicopter. There have been nine reports of the helicopter overheating, with one minor injury to a consumer.
