On Thursday, July 16 at 7pm you are invited to an armchair tour of the landmarks, monuments, historic sites and personalities that together tell the story of Connecticut's role in the American Revolution and the birth of our nation. Bill Hosley, creative director of the New Haven Museum will explore sites associated with the 1779 invasion of New Haven, and talk about the connection between New Haven and Fairfield. Listen to Timothy Dwight's gripping account of the burning of Fairfield, and recall the treachery of New Haven's Benedict Arnold as he ravaged his ancestral stomping grounds with the Burning of New London. Learn about historic sites associated with such patriots and founding fathers Oliver Ellsworth, Governor Jonathan Trumbull, Nathan Hale, Israel Putnam and Roger Sherman. Free for museum members, $5 for non-members.

The lecture is part of the Fairfield Museum and History Center’s summer series that commemorates the 230th anniversary of the burning of Fairfield during the American Revolution. Included in that series is a special tavern night at the Sun Tavern on July 11, a walking tour series, special harbor cruises and a new exhibition, Reduced to Ashes: the 1779 Burning of Fairfield. For further details on all the exciting upcoming events at the museum, please visit www.fairfieldhs.org or call 203-259-1598. The Fairfield Museum and History Center is located at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield, CT and is open daily.
