Jesse Chianelli will join more than thirty of the top finishers from The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE)’s regional high school business plan competitions to vie for the top prize in this year’s NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge, Presented by Kathryn W. Davis, on Thursday, October 23rd at the Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway, in New York City. The first place winner will walk away with $10,000 in seed capital to fund their business venture or use to further their education goals. Jesse Chianelli, a recent Stamford High School graduate will represent Connecticut. The students will all present their business plans detailing a market and competitive analysis, an annual income statement with a breakdown of cost of goods sold, a computation of return on sales and investment, along with a civic-minded philanthropy plan and an actual prototype of their product or service, before a group of judges including but not limited to: David Fialkow, Founder, General Catalyst Wyc Grousbeck, Owner, Boston Celtics Kay Koplovitz, Founder USA Network Ralph Schlosstein, Co-Founder, BlackRock Tom Scott, Co-Founder, Nantucket Nectars From phone recharging vending machines, to custom video production, to personalized poetry, to a photosensitive football helmet visor, these students work with their teachers and a group of mentors all year long to develop revenue generating businesses. They will have the opportunity to showcase their business savvy at this year’s annual competition before the prestigious panel of judges. A leader for 20 years in its field, NFTE provides students in low-income communities with hands-on training in how to launch their own businesses. Through the process, students begin to see the relevance of learning math and reading as real-life essentials. Compelling evidence from researchers at Harvard University indicates that youth who are taught about entrepreneurship show a positive change in attitude and strong success orientation, and are more likely to be focused on academic and professional achievements and aspirations and leadership. NFTE’s goal is to give young people the skills and confidence to unlock their true potential, so they find their own pathways to prosperity.
