A metaphysical novel offering transformation and hope
while engrossing, entertaining, and enlightening
Are we all really living our lives or merely going through the motions? What if we all lived our lives as if anything was possible? As if everything was possible? These are just some of the questions answered in I AM MY OWN DRAGON, a metaphysical fictionalized memoir, by Linda C. Thompson, an internationally recognized writer, actor, singer, business person, and owner of a consulting firm specializing in leadership development, team alignment and executive coaching.
We all have a dragon that burns deep inside, because we all have the power to make anything we want to happen occur. Every one of us has within ourselves the dragon’s strength. The dragon’s wisdom. The dragon’s fire. Even the dragon’s ability to soar. We just don’t always know it. And sometimes, we have to overcome tremendous odds and challenges to figure it out. Linda Thompson through I AM MY OWN DRAGON helps you find the dragon inside of you.
I AM MY OWN DRAGON is not your typical self help book, it is a new type of genre, a metaphysical fictionalized memoir that invites readers to take a journey with main character Lucy March and learn through her mistakes, transformation, and enlightenment, how to make their own choices to overcome their own roadblocks and change their lives to lead their best possible life.
Lucy March is a living tragedy. Abandoned by her father, sexually abused as a toddler and devastated by the death of a lover, Lucy’s life is focused on forgetting through alcohol, drugs and losing herself in others. When she is violently raped by the man she once thought she’d spend her life with, she becomes depressed, despondent and almost willing to give up—until she meets therapist Johanna, and undergoes a transformation that ends up changing both women’s lives. Written as a conversation between the reader and main character Lucy March, I AM MY OWN DRAGON asks readers, among other things, to examine the “roadblocks” that may be holding us back from living the extraordinary life we were born to live. The book teaches us—through Lucy’s story:
• how to heal ourselves through reflection and self-discovery;
• how to overcome adversity and live a remarkable life;
• how to find the dragon—the power—within ourselves;
• how to use that dragon to replace loneliness, sadness and anguish with joy, happiness and fulfillment;
• how to find the fire within and use that to guide us to make the right choices to change our lives for the better;
• how to never give up; and
• perhaps most important, what we seek, we will find.
As a piece of fiction, I AM MY OWN DRAGON tells a good story and provides readers insights at their deepest level of questioning, giving them choices each step of the way. I AM MY OWN DRAGON not only creates a new genre, but breaks the form of a traditional novel. The prologue is a poem that captures the imagery and emotion of an abused three-year-old child. Section One, Life, begins with Lucy leaving her hometown for college and depicts the struggle to learn and overcome childhood traumas. Section Two, Transformation, reveals the transformational process for both Lucy and all of those she comes in contact with during her own healing. Section Three, Enlightenment, describes Lucy's experience of moving from self-loathing to self-love and creating her own happily ever after.
I AM MY OWN DRAGON is a story of hope, transformation, and inspiration and like the dragon on the cover, Lucy's story of adversity and redemption not only takes readers on a voyage of self discovery and self absolution, but teaches us how and why people come into our lives. In the final pages of the book, readers not only discover that as they have been reading, they have been writing their own story, but that I AM MY OWN DRAGON is actually a gift from Lucy.
