Head for the Hills to Connecticut's oldest food and wine festival

Connecticut's oldest food and wine festival will offer cellar tours, classes and tastings for wine lovers.

The 23rd annual edition of A Taste of The Litchfield Hills will be held Saturday, June 21, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 22, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Haight-Brown Vineyard, 29 Chestnut Hill, Litchfield, Conn.

Held on the grounds of Connecticut's oldest winery, this two-day culinary festival annually attracts thousands of attendees for a sampling of the region's food and wine, live music, upscale shopping, plus winery tours, wine tasting and romantic strolls on the vineyard walk.

Special evnts will include cellar tours daily at 12:00, 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., plus classes for wine lovers. Wine tastings will also be conducted at the inside wine bar throughout the festival.

Daily classes will include:

11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Decadence: The perfect Pairing - Learn about different wine varieties and how to pair them with mouthwatering cheeses and chocolates.
11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Sight, Smell & Taste: Using your 3 senses to identify and taste wine.
12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Wine, Cheese & Chocolate Decadence: The perfect Pairing - Learn about different wine varieties and how to pair them with mouthwatering cheeses and chocolates.
1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Novice Somelier: Identifying wine varietals.
2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Decadence: The perfect Pairing - Learn about different wine varieties and how to pair them with mouthwatering cheeses and chocolates.
2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Alternative Desserts for the Sophisticated Party Thrower.
3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Decadence: The perfect Pairing - Learn about different wine varieties and how to pair them with mouthwatering cheeses and chocolates.
4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Sight, Smell & Taste: Using your 3 senses to identify and taste wine.

From beef and chicken to seafood and vegetarian, this year's menu will feature American, Asian, Italian and Mediterranean cuisine prepared by talented chefs from Indochine Pavilion, LaCupola Ristorante, Nonna Maria's Italian Deli, Noujaim's Specialty Foods, The Market and West Shore Seafood. These local restaurants will serve grazing-sized portions of house specialties at prices averaging from $4.00 to $8.00. Haight-Brown Vineyard wine will be served by the glass, plus ice-cold draught beer, soft drinks and hot and iced coffee will also be available. Covered table seating will be available, plus guests are invited to picnic on the grounds with their own lawn chairs and blankets.

In an outdoor shopping bazaar, dozens of talented crafters will host exhibits featuring hand-crafted food products, home decor, jewelry, metal art and wine accessories.

The 23rd annual A Taste of The Litchfield Hills will also feature a talented roster of musical attractions. Kicking-off the festival on Saturday, June 21, at 12:oo Noon will be Dangling Success, a Hudson Valley smooth jazz quintet, whose single "Lipstick Marks" has received significant airplay throughout the U.S. and Canada. That afternoon at 5:00 p.m., New York City recording artist and international award-winning songwriter Gabrielle and her trio will perform in the Taste Music Tent.

Performing on Sunday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m. will be jazz quartet Stanley Maxwell, which was voted best jazz group in the 2007 Hartford Advocate Readers Poll. At 2:00 p.m. pop singer/songwriter Monica Attell will perform with her band.

A Taste of The Litchfield Hills will be held rain or shine Saturday, June 21, 2008, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 22, 2008, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Haight-Brown Vineyard, 29 Chestnut Hill - off Route 118, approximately four miles West of Route 8, Exit 42.

Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors 60-plus and children under age 12 are admitted free, when accompanied by an adult. Admission does not include food and beverage, which are purchased separately.
