GE Capital Interns Provide A Day of Volunteer Service to STAR

Norwalk, CT - 32 interns from GE Capital volunteered at STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way on August 7, 2014 to do interior painting, deck scraping and staining, landscaping, shrub and tree clearing and other improvements to one of STAR’s 18 residential living locations for independent adults with developmental disabilities in Fairfield County. The interns are working at GE Capital locations in Norwalk, Stamford and Danbury through August 8, 2014 and hail from colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Doreen Bentson, Quality Assurance Leader said, “This was a terrific opportunity to give back to the community where we live and work.” Besard Gjoini, a student at UCONN Storrs and intern at the Danbury location, agreed. “We are glad to come to STAR and give back. It has been a very impressive experience, learning more about this population.” Mark Bentson, a student at Worcester Polytechnic said, “We’re having a wonderful time. It’s hard work but a very nice day out and a great cause.”

Katie Banzhaf, Executive Director of STAR said, “We are appreciative of the generous efforts of GE Capital volunteers on behalf of our people. The hard work, organiation and energy of these students is heartwarming and impressive. STAR is truly thankful for our corporate supporters.”
