Fourth annual Connecticut Open House Day on June 14

Local Attractions and Cultural Organizations to Welcome State Residents with Special Incentives

June 14 is the fourth annual Connecticut Open House Day and state residents are invited to discover the attractions, cultural organizations, shops and lodging properties close to home.

More than 240 arts, history, film and tourism properties will welcome visitors with a variety of special incentives, such as discounted/free admission, free gifts and/or special exhibits and activities for Connecticut residents.

This one-day event is sponsored by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT) to raise awareness among Connecticut’s residents of all the state has to offer – from its well-known treasures to its many hidden gems – and to encourage them to become Connecticut Ambassadors who share their findings with visiting family and friends.

Open House Day participants include museums, galleries, historic properties, Connecticut River ferries, theaters, farms, vineyards, amusement parks, nature centers, shops, hotels, inns and B&Bs. New participants this year include the Governor’s Residence, CCT’s own gallery and golf courses.

The following Open House Day sites in Coastal Fairfield County will offer exciting and unique events that provide great photo opportunities:

Sheffield Island Lighthouse Ferry
Hope Dock, corner of Washington and North Water streets, Norwalk
Ferry rides to the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse. Tickets cost only $5 (regular price is $20). Departures at 11 a.m. and 2 and 3:30 p.m.

Fairfield Theatre Company
70 Sanford St., Fairfield
Free admission to the Farmers Market (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and a theater open house. Those who attend the open house receive a member’s discount to the Tinsley Ellis evening concert.

Stamford Downtown – French Market
Bedford Street Annex, Stamford
Free outdoor sculpture exhibit of J. Seward Johnson’s works, children’s activities, giveaways and French Market featuring produce, flowers, baked goods and more from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Norwalk Historical Society
Mill Hill Historic Park, 2 East Wall St., Norwalk
A Flag Day ceremony at 1 p.m., featuring the dedication of a new flagpole. Participants can learn about the holiday and help the society honor the flag.
