Fall Festival is one of the region's most celebrated fall events, and this year the public is invited to experience traditional Native American songs, dances, music, games, and stories that honor this culture. With performers from the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, and groups such as the Turtle Drum Singers, this free community event offers an experience you will never forget. Come make a Native American or colonial craft at the museum’s Kidzone, participate in a Condor dance or wander through the colonial marketplace presenting blacksmiths, candle dipping, and colonial crafters. Explore the museum’s galleries free of charge for the day, and view two exhibitions that celebrate what makes Connecticut, and our region, so special. The festival will be held from 12pm – 4pm on the Historic Town Green, next to the museum located at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield, CT. The festival begins with a bang – Native American drumming performances by the Turtle Drum Singers. Next, try your hand at traditional Native American games and listen to amazing stories with Trudie Lamb Richmond from the Mashantucket Pequot Museum. The day continues with performances of Native American dance, drums and song on the Town Hall Soccer Field. Throughout the day visitors can enjoy food, visit colonial demonstrators, make crafts, listen to Native American stories, tour the newly renovated Sun Tavern and attend an open house at the Old Academy School. There are opportunities to become a student in a mid-19th century one-room schoolhouse with the Daughters of the American Revolution, and for those that like to shop, the Junior Woman’s Club of Fairfield will host a craft fair on the Town Green, which begins at 10am. Additionally, the Fairfield Museum Shop will be holding an end of summer sale inside the museum. There will be something for everyone enjoy. Be sure to stop by Fairfield Museum’s membership and information table to pick up a schedule of the day’s events, and to learn about all of the museum’s exciting upcoming programs, including StoryCorps in October.
