The Fairfield County Community Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Shakespeare on the Sound, a nonprofit committed to carrying Shakespeare’s plays to mass audiences at no charge for admission other than a suggested donation.

The festival’s 13h annual production, “Julius Caesar,” drew critical acclaim for a month of outdoor performances at Pinkney Park in Rowayton and Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich.

In addition Shakespeare on the Sound carries the work of The Bard to students and others interactively under an educational outreach staffed by professional actors.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds and contribute to existing funds. The community foundation also provides philanthropic advisory services and develops and leads initiatives to tackle critical community issues. It is in compliance with the Council of Foundations’ national standards for community foundations.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation merged with the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation in January 2008. The merged foundation’s net assets approach $150 million. The combined history includes over $90 million in grantmaking to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond. For more information visit www.fccfoundation.org.

The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism also supports Shakespeare on the Sound and its activities. Additional information about Shakespeare on the Sound is available online at www.shakespeareonthesound.org.
