Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting recall effectiveness checks on retail establishments in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Fairy Dust Pendants and Candle Charms,” due to high levels of lead. This product was manufactured in Hong Kong and imported by Benjamin International, of Middlebury, Connecticut.
The pewter pendant and charms were sold in a collection of 12 pendants which were sold separately in addition to being sold on candles of various scents and colors. This product was sold nationwide at a variety of gift stores from February 2004 to February 2008 for approximately $6.00 to $8.00.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. strongly recommends that consumers check their jewelry for this product, if found, cease using and contact the importer, Benjamin International, to receive a free replacement pendant and charm. Although no injuries or incidents have been reported, the potential for lead exposure is high. For additional information, please call Benjamin International, toll free at (888) 249-7639, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, or visit their website at: www.benjamininternational.com .
