Consumers should recall three brands of children's hooded sweatshirts/jackets

Product safety inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments, conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Bongo Cheetah Girls Jackets, Drawstring Hoodies and Hooded Sweatshirts, all manufactured in China.
*The hooded “Bongo Cheetah Girls Jackets” were distributed by Kids with Character LLC, of New York, New York and sold nationwide in Marshalls stores from November 2007 through August 2008 for approximately $25.00. Style numbers of the recalled garments are #8N6003 and RN # 119132, located on the care label. The girls jackets were sold in sizes 4 through 6 X. No injuries have been reported however the strangulation hazard exists due to the drawstring through the hood. Consumers should either remove the drawstring from the garment to eliminate the hazard or return the jacket to Marshall’s retail stores or Kids with Character, for a full refund. *The “Drawstring Hoodies” were manufactured in China for Request Jeans of New York, N.Y. and sold nationwide to mass merchandisers and other retail establishments from January 2007 to March 2007 for approximately $36.00. The recall includes the following hoodies: Short sleeve hoodie, Item # 11188SG, has “Request” printed all over the garment and was sold in olive green and light blue. Long sleeve hoodie Item # 11218LG, sold in olive green and white and has a butterfly design on the front and back. Although no injuries have been reported, the strangulation hazard remains due to the drawstring through the hood. Remove the drawstring immediately to eliminate the hazard. Consumers may also return the garment to the place of purchase or to Request Jeans, to receive a full refund. *The Hooded Sweatshirts manufactured in China and distributed by Raw Blue Sportswear, of Moonachie, New Jersey, were sold nationwide from July 2007 to December 2007 at T.J. Maxx, MP Trading Stores, Mega Trends and Moonstone Shirts, for approximately $30.00 to $40.00. The recalled style numbers are as follows: 7FT5655, 7FT5455 and 7FT5515 which can be located on the garment’s sales tag. The recalled sweatshirts were sold in various colors and in three (3) styles: smack print, comic magazine print and kapow print. The drawstring through the hood of the garment poses the strangulation risk, once removed, the hazard is eliminated, For a full refund, consumers may return the garment to the place of purchase or to Raw Blue Sportswear. Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., strongly recommends consumers check their children’s clothing for any of these products, if found, immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate the strangulation hazard. Consumers may also return this product to the appropriate retail establishments, as noted above. Although no injuries, nor incidents, have been reported, the risk for injury is high.
