Consumers should recall Infant Rattles, due to choking hazard

Department of Consumer Protection Safety Inspectors are conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Tumble Tower Infant Rattles, manufactured in China for the Manhattan Group LLC, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, due to a choking hazard.

The Manhattan Tumble Tower Infant Rattles were sold in gift and specialty stores nationwide, mail order catalogs and internet sales from September 2007 through April 2008, for approximately $15.00. The recalled baby rattle is made of clear plastic with blue end cap pieces. A blue face spins on a post inside the rattle when it is turned and it has two handles which contain brightly colored beads on the inside and colorful rings on the outside. The rattle measures 5 inches long.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., recommends consumers to check their baby products for this recalled item and if found, immediately remove from the child’s possession and contact Manhattan Group to exchange the rattle for another toy or return it to the store where purchased for a full refund. Although no injuries have been reported, there have been several incidents of the blue plastic end caps breaking, resulting in small parts, posing a severe choking hazard to infants and small children.
