Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments conducting recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Bonne Bell Children’s Cosmetics Accessory Bags,” manufactured in China and imported by Bonne Bell Company of Lakewood, Ohio. The cosmetic bags were sold retail stores nationwide from September 2007 through August 2008 for approximately $9.00. The metal clasps on the handle of the bags contain excessive levels of lead.

The recalled accessory bags are made of plastic and have a zipper and carrying handle. They contain a variety of cosmetic products which are not part of this recall. Located on the hangtag is the model name and UPC numbers. The recalled model and UPC numbers are as follows:

SMACKERS Sweet Treats Collection UPC 0 50051 50575 7
SMACKERS Sparkle & Shine Collection UPC 0 50051 50576 4
SMACKERS Glam It Up Collection UPC 0 50051 50577 1
BONNEBELL Natural Neutrals Collection UPC 0 50051 22640 9
BONNEBELL Pretty Pinks Collection UPC 0 50051 22641 6
BONNEBELL Fresh Pinks Collection UPC 0 50051 22642 3
BONNEBELL Glamorous Neutrals Collection UPC 0 50051 22643 0

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. urged consumers to check their homes for this product and if found, remove from children’s reach and contact Bonne Bell for a replacement bag. For additional information, please call Bonne-Bell toll free at (866) 288-8643, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit their website at www.thebonnebellcompany.com/recall/ . Although no injuries have been reported, the potential for lead exposure to children is high.
