“Today’s highly successful effort took dozens of dangerous people off the street and sends an unmistakable message: Crime not only doesn’t pay – there’s no job security, either,” Governor Rell said. “Connecticut is committed to public safety. Removing these wanted people from the New Britain area will help safeguard the vast majority of law-abiding citizens who want nothing more than to live their lives in peace and security. “The State Police and the New Britain police sent out 10 five-member teams this morning and delivered a rude awakening indeed to anyone who believed they could prey on the community without consequences,” the Governor said. “These roundups will continue across Connecticut as we focus on making – and keeping – our state safer.” Police arrested 43 people during today’s operation. Arrests were made for crimes such as sexual assault, narcotics violations, violation of probation, first-degree assault and first-degree larceny. All of the prisoners were taken to the New Britain Police Department, where they were processed and held on bond. Each prisoner was transported to Superior Court GA #15, where they were arraigned. State troopers and New Britain police officers are continuing to search for additional people in the greater New Britain area. Governor Rell’s budget proposal expands on the groundbreaking criminal justice reforms of the January special legislative session, including plans to add probation officers, increase the number of correction officers and expand treatment and service options to help recently released offenders avoid returning to prison. The Governor’s budget also calls for quicker DNA testing, $8 million in bond funding to establish a computer system linking the courts, law enforcement and probation authorities and added funding for urban youth violence prevention. © Copyright by NorwalkPlus.com.
